東京 F.A.T.とは：
オープンソース（フリーソフトウェア）の世界では、数えきれないほどの共有財産（パブリックドメイン）が存在しています。その共有状態を守るため、GPLライセンス、BSDライセンスなど、現行の著作権に対抗するライセンスも考えられ、多くの場面で機能している程です。

一方、事実上、そのほとんどの行為が無償であり、文化という観点からも共有財産であるべきアートの世界では、一点性、一回性といったアウラ的な付加価値、購入者の私的財産権、また、複製可能な作品に関しても、大手企業の金銭による著作者からの著作権移譲や、著作権管理団体による中間搾取等が白日の下に行われ、芸術作品は独占され売るものとして、その共有財産としての価値が根こそぎ破壊されるといった状況が続いています。

パブリックドメインの観点からみると、すでにフリーソフトウェアの方が芸術作品よりも、その存在形態において芸術的であり、芸術が果たすべき役割の多くの部分を担っています。

「アルス」の語源が「テクネ」であることからも分かるように、アートもテクノロジーも同じところから発生しました。過去においてはそれらがとても近い場所にあったこともあります。たとえば、レオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチなどは両分野で活躍し、素晴らしい業績を残しています。

アートとテクノロジーは現代に至るまで、時代の状況変化とともに、近づいたり離れたりしながらも、しかし決して融合することなくその活動を続けて来ました。そして今、共有財産（パブリックドメイン）というものを再考しなくてはならなくなったこの現代において、「オープンソース」と「ポップカルチャー」が交差するまさにその場所で「フリーアート」の創造が始まりました。

東京 F.A.T.では、オープンソース・テクノロジーによるフリーポップカルチャーの研究開発を通して、フリーアートの可能性を、早めの頻繁なリリースとラップ、そして笑い（LOL）をもって追求しています。

About Tokyo F.A.T.:
We can find number of public domains in the world of open source and free softwares. To maintain the collective condition, new licenses such as GPL, BSD, and others had been invented, functioning as alternative of the current copy right laws.

From the cultural perspective, it is almost common sense that art works and activities should be free to all the people. But in reality, the value of commonness has been destroyed. Companies are buying artists copy rights and intermediary exploitation is regularly done by the copyright organizations. Even for one and only type of art and individual property rights, all those art works that emanate aura, are considered as a product that can be sold and owned.

Looking from the side of public domain, the free software culture is much more artistic and it is bearing may of the important responsibilities which art failed to do.

The etymology of [ars] is [techne]. Art and Technology shares the same origin. Time to time in the past, they existed close to each other, as we can see from the works of Leonardo da Vinci.

And now, we are at the phase to give second thoughts about the philosophy of public domain. Creations of free art as began where the [open source] and the [pop culture] intersects.

Through the research and development of free & pop culture by open source technology, Tokyo F.A.T will be seeking for the possibilities of free art. And of course, “Release early, often with rap music, and LOL”.
